The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Göttingen conducts fundamental research in the field of solar system physics.

With its approximately 300 staff members, it is one of Germany's leading space research institutes in the field of solar physics and planetary research and has a long history of successful contributions to European and international space missions.

Project Assistant / Foreign Language Correspondent / Secretary (f/m/d)

to work for the PLATO Data Center (PDC)


PLATO is a space mission of ESA's Cosmic Vision Program, which aims to detect and characterize a large sample of exoplanets and their host stars.

The multi-national teams working on the project are located in Germany, France, Spain, and other European countries. The PLATO Data Center based at the MPS is funded by the German Aerospace Center (DLR).


As PLATO project assistant you will be a key component of the project management team and provide essential administrative support to the local team members.

Your Tasks Include

  • Management of PDC memberships and corresponding documents
  • Preparation of meetings, writing and distribution of meeting minutes, identification/documentation of action items for the team, followup activities
  • Monitoring official and internal deadlines, e.g. for regular reports to the German Aerospace Center
  • Tracking expenses for the project
  • Travel planning, booking, and reimbursement for the PLATO team
  • Assistance with personnel matters and hiring processes
  • Documentation management
  • Translation of documents from German into English and vice versa
Your Profile

  • Successfully completed professional training in a relevant field, e.g. foreign language correspondence, office management, or similar
  • Proven work experience in a comparable position
  • Very good command of English and German, both written and spoken
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and structured way of working
Employment Conditions

  • This fulltime position (39 h/week) is available immediately
  • Employment is limited to an initial period until December 2026, with the possibility of an extension that is contingent upon performance and project funding
  • Remuneration up to grade E8 of the TVöD-Bund pay scale, depending on your qualification and work experience
  • Options for remote work can be negotiated
