The Liver Development and Regeneration group of Professor Elke Ober in the division of developmental biology at the Friedrich-Alexander Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg is seeking a highly motivated and skilled candidate for a PhD studentship. The project will use advanced imaging and state-of-the-art molecular biology approaches examining cell communication and interactions mediated by novel ECM candidates in hepatocyte polarity and cell-cell interactions leading to hepatocyte-biliary tube formation driving functional tissue organization in liver development and regeneration.

Befristetes Forschungsvorhaben
The Ober group seeks to decipher the molecular and cellular interactions of the different hepatic cell types and their functional niches that direct hepatocytes and the endothelial and biliary networks into the intricate tissue organization of a functional liver and how this architecture is restored during regeneration. They use zebrafish genetics, various cell and molecular biology techniques and advanced imaging methods combined with quantitative analysis. This will set the stage for generating 3D cell environments towards engineering hepatic cells for regenerative medicine.
The Ober group is an interactive and dynamic team at the Division of Developmental Biology at Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. FAU and surrounding institutes provide an outstanding research environment for development, cell biology and regeneration with all facilities essential for this ambitious research program.
Salary will be according to TV-L E13, 50-65% depending on experience.
