About the role:


The Collections Management and Acquisition Team is a division within the Publishing Performance & Intelligence group providing expertise and dedicated resources to support the growth of commissioned content across the SN Journal portfolio.

The Managing Editor will work with commissioning editors, external editors, and our operational partners to organize and manage collections on behalf of key parts of the Springer Nature Open Access journals.

They will be responsible for the project management of multiple live collections and will work closely with our operational teams to provide an enhanced level of oversight for commissioned articles.


Increasing commissioned content is an essential part of our strategy to grow our Springer Nature journal portfolios and this role ensures we can do this at scale while maintaining an excellent level of quality and author service.


Responsibilities:


  • Project management of live collections.
  • Support Commissioning Editor/Guest Editor and Authors with queries.
  • Engagement with the Marketing department.
  • Contact point for Guest Editor throughout the collection.
  • Reporting on Performance of Collection.
  • Monitoring of content flow and delivery against collection submission window.
  • Enhanced oversight to ensure service and quality and key escalation point.
  • Monitor turnaround times (TATs).
  • With the Editorial Support Advisor team contribute to robust workflow documentation to be used across all portfolios.
  • Point of contact for production and other queries.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a STEM discipline with a keen interest in Science.
years' experience in the publishing industry or science research.

  • Familiarity with the Research Process and the Scientific community.
  • An excellent understanding of the research publishing landscape and how journals and journal publishers serve the research community, particularly Open Access journalsGood understanding of publishing ethics and integrity issues.
  • Practical awareness of the importance and key aspects of research ethics.
  • Excellent presentational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders.
  • A creative mindset and the ability to bring energy, ideas and new approaches.
  • A strategic and commercial mindset, with experience in developing and implementing plans.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change, juggle a varied workload under pressure and work quickly and efficiently on own initiative as well as part of a team.
This is a Fix term position - 9 months
