Student Research Assistant (M/F/div)

in Medical Device Development for Robotic Surgery


Your tasks:


In this research context, we are looking for a talented Masters student (m-f-div) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field for the duration of 6 months as a research student.

The focus of the project will be centered around development of an MR-guided, steerable needle/catheter for cancer treatment.


Tasks include:


  • Development of an MRguided steerable needle for soft tissue navigation
  • Design of experiments for robotic surgical demonstrations
  • Possibility of paid travel to nearby hospitals for user validation


The project will be carried out at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS) located in Stuttgart within the Physical Intelligence Department headed by Prof.

Metin Sitti.


Your profile:


  • You should be pursuing a master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or robotics
  • Experienced with CAD (SolidWorks)
  • Experienced with simulation (Matlab)
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills in English
  • You must be enrolled at a German university

We offer:

Master students holding a Bachelor's degree will be paid €12,68 per hour. An initial contract will be offered for six months, with the possibility of further extension. Upon successful completion, the student will also have the option of joining an entrepreneurial team for technology commercialization.
