Your team responsibilities


The MSCI Index Research and Product Development (IRPD) group is responsible for developing and managing all MSCI standard and custom indexes, spanning Market, Factor, Thematic, Climate and ESG Indexes in both equity and fixed income, as well as combinations of indexes representing all asset classes.

The team has more than 100 members based in various locations around the world.

The group uses a range of analytical tools and methods to investigate new index ideas, carry out research and simulations to turn these ideas into methodologies, conduct client consultations, launch new indexes, and oversee their ongoing management to ensure they meet high quality, accuracy, and governance standards.


The IRPD group works closely with other groups across the firm to implement the index research agenda and benefit from the substantial resources and expertise available within the global MSCI organization.

Your key responsibilities

  • Take a lead role in the development, oversight and administration of EU regulated benchmarks.
  • Understand fully all MSCI standard and custom index methodologies and support the IRPD team in ensuring that the indexes are constructed and administered in accordance with applicable EU regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in index governance by attending the Equity Index Committee and the Fixed Income Index Committee.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including the Legal, Compliance and Global Regulatory Affairs team, the Index Product team, and the Operations and Production team, to coordinate activities related to index governance.
  • Represent IRPD and the firm in external meetings with clients, market authorities and regulators regarding benchmark administration, specifically in respect of current and emerging regulated ESG / climate indexes (ESG, sustainable finance, net zero, PAB, CTB, etc.).

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • Familiarity with institutional investment practices and buyside portfolio management concepts, along with knowledge of European regulation, especially with regard to climate and sustainable finance.
  • Understanding of investment processes in different asset classes, investment styles such as factor investing, as well as ESGbased investments, climate investing and topdown (thematic) investing approaches.
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory requirements and implementing practical internal governance controls.
  • Experience of writing technical and research reports; explaining complex issues in different ways to engage different audiences and excellent interpersonal, communication & presentation skills
  • 710 years of relevant experience gained in financial services, investment management, etc.
  • Bachelor's/Master's Degree in law, finance, economics, etc.; CFA, CAIA or FRM is an advantage
  • Ability to work in German is required
