The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

We are looking for a
Pre-doctoral Research Associate in Applied Microeconomics (gn)


The position is best suited for students that have completed their pre-doctoral education and would like to pursue a competitive PhD in Economics after the gaining more research experience.

The position also provides support and mentorship to the associate toward a successful academic career.

Starting date:
Flexible, but ideally by the summer of 2023.


Your tasks:

  • Literature reviews
  • Writing reports
  • Data management and analysis
  • Support to the design and implementation of online/lab/field experiments
  • Interactions with research partners (NGOs, firms, government, etc.)

Your profile:

  • A completed Master's degree in economics, statistics, computer science, or related fields is expected by the starting date of the appointment
  • Some previous experience using either Stata, R, or other statistical software
  • Previous experience or willingness to learn programming languages such as Python and Javascript, and markup languages such as HTML
