About topi:

topi is creating the tech infrastructure that will allow any retailer or manufacturer to offer Hardware-as-a-Service to business customers.

We are a Berlin-based Fintech startup, founded in 2021 by Charlotte Pallua and Estelle Merle and we have raised close to USD 50m to date.

Our Series A financing round in Summer 2022 was co-led by Index Ventures (invested e.g. in Robinhood, Slack, Figma, Notion) and Creandum (invested e.g. in Spotify, Klarna, Trade Republic) with further participation of Silicon Valley-based TriplePoint Capital. The Role:


As Head of Engineering (f/m/x), you lead our talented engineering team to drive technical innovation, foster a collaborative culture, and deliver exceptional solutions that exceed customer expectations.

As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of topi and driving our continuous success.

The role will be based in our headquarters in Berlin, Germany.

That's what you do:


Strategic Direction:


  • Define and set the technical direction for the next phase of our growth stage, aligning it with the business mission and objectives.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the company's overall strategy, and leverage this knowledge to translate it into a firstclass technical product and align it without technical goals.

Cross-functional Collaboration:


  • Work effectively with other departments such as product and commercial, to ensure alignment of engineering efforts with overall company goals and objectives.
  • Foster a cohesive and integrated approach to product development and delivery.

Talent Management:


  • Lead a team of 2 Engineering Managers and 13 IC engineers, nurturing their professional growth and development.
  • Ensure a highperformance culture in the engineering team.
  • Drive recruitment initiatives to attract and hire top engineering talent.

Thought Leadership:


  • Collaborate closely with the leadership team, offering technical thought leadership and proactive education on critical technical topics to inform decisionmaking.
  • Cultivate a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement within the engineering department.

What You Need to Succeed:


  • Significant (handson) experience in software engineering, preferably with expertise in relevant technologies used by the team. _Our backend stack is written in Go and our frontend in Typescript on top of the React-Redux framework all running on Google Cloud Platform. _
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical innovation and deliver scalable, impactful solutions.
  • Proven track record in building and scaling highperforming engineering teams, including recruiting, mentoring, and coaching engineers. Ideally in a startup or fintech environment.
  • Ability to work closely with product management and other crossfunctional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions and deliver highquality products on time.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts, project status, and engineering priorities to nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Effective leadership skills to inspire and motivate the engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation, and driving results.
