Do the challenges of enabling AWS's European Sovereign Cloud for its highly regulated and public sector customers excite you?

    The AWS Managed Operations (MO) organization was founded in April 2023, with the objective to reduce operational load and toil through long-term engineering projects. MO is building the best-in-class engineering and operations team that will own the day-to-day operations for AWS Regions; improving the availability, reliability, latency, performance and efficiency to operate AWS regions.

    Amazon is looking for a highly motivated Systems Engineer who can balance the day-to-day operations of AWS' software systems with long-term engineering to reduce operational toil. We need engineers who enjoy constantly learning and diving deep into the wide range of systems and technologies that make up one of the world's largest cloud providers.

    Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.

    A day in the life

    You'll spend a majority of your time operating and improving some of the largest software systems humanity has ever built. Over the course of a week, this could look like; Monday morning you review the operational health of the services in your team's care, and in the afternoon, you figured out why there was an anomaly and wrote up an actionable bug report. Tuesday, you provide feedback on some upcoming change management documents assigned to systems in your team's care. Wednesday and Thursday, you helped resolve your team's backlog of operational issues. Friday, you spent the morning writing and testing a few useful scripts and, in the afternoon, you educated service teams on the intricacies of the European Sovereign Cloud.

    Basic Qualifications

    Able to participate in an 24x7 on-call rotation

    3+ years of experience operating software systems or related fields

    Proficient working across hardware, software, networking, operating systems, with significant depth and breadth of understanding in at least one

    Experience documenting difficult technical problems and writing standard operational procedure (SOP)

    Proficient scripting processes in a language such as Bash, Python, or Ruby or similar

    Experienced diagnostician; understanding architecture and how systems interact to root-cause problems

    Successful applicants must have the legal right to work in Germany

    Preferred Qualifications

    3+ years of operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications

    Good communication skills across languages

    Experience with Infrastructure as Code, (such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar)

    Experience operating services in AWS
