The TUM School of Social Sciences andTechnology (SOT) brings together an international community of researchersand educators from the fields of governance, educational science, and science& technology studies. It enhances the role of social sciences throughinterdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach as an integral part of TUM'scommitment to Human-Centered Engineering.
The PotsdamInstitute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), a member of the LeibnizAssociation, advances the scientificfrontier on interdisciplinary climate impact research for global sustainabilityand contributes knowledge and solutions for a safe and just climate future. Withits roughly staff from all over the world, PIK combines research acrossdisciplines and scales with solution orientation, emphasizing that societalrelevance is based on scientific excellence.
With this professorship, the hosting institutions seekto combine political and economic analysis of climate and resource policy toexplore the economic context in which policy operates and to bring politicaland normative considerations on inclusive wealth governance and sustainabilityinto economics.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching aswell as the promotion of early-career scientists. The successful candidate willbe co-heading PIK ́s CERES FutureLab on Political Economy until the end of ,thus leading a team of postdoctoral and doctoralresearchers. Teaching responsibilities at TUM include courses in theuniversity's bachelor's and master's programs but are reduced to two hoursduring the stay at PIK. Candidates are expected to advance the understanding ofthe role of global commons and inclusive wealth in climate policy, identify keypolitical and economic barriers to effective policy implementation, and advancepolicy advice by assessing solutions and pathways to achieve political targets.We also expect the professorship to actively build bridges between PIK and TUM,for instance, through public engagement and outreach activities in the contextof the TUM Think Tank.
Qualifications
We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of politicaleconomy with a focus on climate policy and quantitative research. Candidatesshould have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in aninternationally recognized scientific environment relative to the relevantcareer level (please see TUM Neue Helvetica 55 Regular",sans-serif;mso-ansi-language:EN-US" lang="EN-US"> for further information), as well as be experiencedin leading large research groups.
A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degreeor equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, areprerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
The successful candidate's interdisciplinary researchwill focus on state-of-the-art quantitative approaches (empirical ornumerical). An ability and interest to leverage and analyze large datasets isdesirable.
Our Offer
The successful candidate will be appointed as a tenuredprofessor (generally a civil servant under public law) and immediately begranted leave to take over the position of co-lead of the CERES FutureLab atPIK until the end of . The PIK position will be negotiated separately underprivate law ("Jülicher Modell"). Beginning in , the professorship will betransformed into a regular TUM professorship, including a full teaching load.
Based on the best international standards andtransparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic careerpath for tenured faculty from Associate Professor to Full Professor. Theregulations of the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply.
